The Gentle Sleep Coach® method uses a combination of sleep techniques along with the Gentle Sleep Coach® philosophy developed by sleep coaching guru, Kim West, LCSW-C, The Sleep Lady®. The GSC approach offers a gentler alternative for parents who do not want to use the “cry-it-out” method.
Self-soothing is the cornerstone of good sleep habits. Many studies have shown that between the ages of six and twelve months, children who are taught to soothe themselves are significantly less likely to have trouble falling asleep during their toddler years than children who do not have this skill.
The goal of the Gentle Sleep Coach® method is to help children learn the skill of self-soothing at an early age. This approach is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution. Throughout the process, both child and parent are encouraged to gently transition towards independence, taking into account the individual child’s needs as they learn this vital life skill of putting themselves to sleep.
